How to Talk to Your Ex Without Losing Your Power

August 2025

You've broken the silence.

A text or two has gone back and forth.

Now you're wondering: how do I keep this calm?

The danger isn't usually what you say.

It's the energy behind it.

That hidden subtext is what creates drama.

Here's how to keep conversations safe, light, and pride-friendly.

1. Use HAST: Happy Attitude + Small Talk

Stay light. Stay normal.

Talk about everyday life. Family, work, hobbies, even the weather.

Not because small talk is magical...

But because it rebuilds emotional safety.

It shows your ex you can interact without pressure.

2. Use COWN: The Clash-Of-Wills Neutralizer

If your ex gets critical or pushes a button... don't defend. Don't explain. Don't argue.

Instead, agree calmly:

  • "Yeah, you might be right."
    • "Fair enough."

This short-circuits tension. They have nothing to fight against.

      3. Control the Emotional Climate

You don't just react to the mood... you set it.

Lower your voice. Slow your pace. Change the subject if needed.

This resets the room. You control the thermostat.

      4. Do a Quick LOP Check

Before sending any message, pause for three seconds and ask:

      • Will this protect my pride?
        • Will it protect theirs?

If the answer is no, delete it. Pride damage is never worth it.

          5. Mind the Subtext

          Every message whispers something deeper.

If your words say "no pressure" but your energy says "please love me," they'll feel that.

          So ask yourself:

"What is this silently saying about me?"

Only send messages you'd still respect, even if they got ignored

          Final Word

Talking to your ex doesn't need scripts.

It needs calm energy, safe tone, and pride protection.

Get those right, and you'll avoid drama before it starts.
